Chawan Ninsei Morikiku
Kiyomizu tea bowl from Seikanji kiln
An unforgettable tea bowl painted with gorgeous chrysanthemum flowers, contoured with real gold, made in the Seikanji kiln, Kyoto, Japan. The dynamic, colorful, extravagant painting style is a unique feature of this kiln, making the matcha time a truly exquisite experience.
We deliver this tea bowl with a wooden box signed by the master.
The Seikanji kiln was established by Master Kikujiro in the early Meiji Era, and it is currently led by Maryu Sugita, the 4th generation of the founder family.
Chrysanthemum flower is the symbol of longevity and good fortune. The Japanese believe that if they display chrysanthemum in their home, it will bring them great luck. Chrysanthemum also represents nobility and the imperial family, which even got the name the 'Chrysanthemum Throne'. According to Buddhist teachings one essential part of meditation is the scent of a flower, and as chrysanthemum has a mild, sweet fragrance, it has also become a common offering on Buddhist altars.
